The second in the series of introducing the five new members of the Friends of Holcomb Farm Board of Directors.
It was a natural progression for Dave Emery to gravitate to an increased interaction with the board of Holcomb Farm after the unexpected and tragic passing of his wife, Jenny, who was clearly the steam engine stoking the farm to a greater presence, but it certainly wasn’t a new connection, either. When he and Jenny moved to Granby in 1981, they lived adjacent to the Farm at 142 Simsbury Road. They were captivated by its rich agricultural heritage and its stunning location. They have always been active participants in the farm’s activities.
Although he did not grow up on a farm, when the couple could afford to buy a larger place with plenty of land, Emery notes he “dove head first into gardening, raising chickens and pigs, sugaring and cutting firewood.” By now, he could add a few more items to that list.
With Jenny’s passing, Dave has been adamant that her vision continue to move the farm forward. The board appreciates the energy he brings to keeping the progress going and has elected him president. When asked to talk about what he brings to the board, Emery replied, “I bring a love of all things Granby, a passion for open space and a collaborative nature that will serve me well as president.”
