Last year, Joan Beatson, children’s librarian, and Kelly Marszycki, director of libraries, decided it was time to explore some options for a new circulation desk in the children’s room. After researching other public libraries that had recently installed new circulation desks, they presented the project to the GLA Board in the early spring. At the June board meeting, the GLA gave the library the go-ahead to select the best company and design. Final design details were added, and at the September meeting of the Board of Selectmen, final approval was given.
The circulation desk was delivered and installed in early December. Everyone was amazed at how much space the Children’s Department had gained, as well as the 180-degree view of the entire room, which is important for the young patrons’ safety. It adds extra counter and workspace, a fully compliant ADA section and added display space at the two corners.
Thanks to the Granby Library Association for its generosity and continued support of the libraries. Children, parents, grandparents and others will enjoy this beautiful and efficient new addition to the Children’s Department in the years to come!
