Car wash a success—thanks!

The cadets of Lost Acres Fire Department Explorer Post 1936 would like to thank all of the individuals and businesses that contributed to the success of its car wash on June 6. The event was a success. The cadets, advisors and other members of the LAFD washed over 35 vehicles that day. Proceeds will be used to support a field trip later this summer to the 9/11 Memorial in New York City along with future events and equipment for the program. Early Morning Summer Thoughts

The blue jay sits in the evergreen tree awaiting my opening of the back door. He seems to know that I will share with him little pieces of my hotdog roll left over from last night’s supper. Eagerly, he grabs at the small pieces I’ve thrown on the ground. Sometimes he eats them there, other times he flies back to his nest and brings his mate. The Farmington Valley Chorale, with Ellen Gilson Voth as artistic director, will hold a Summer Sing-in featuring Franz Schubert’s Mass in G Major, on Sunday, Aug. 9, 3 to 5 p.m., Avon Congregational Church, 6 West Main Street (corner of Routes 44 and 10) in Avon.
