Granby Land Trust acquires properties in Broad Hill Road area

The Granby Land Trust has expanded its holdings in the Broad Hill Road area through the recent acquisition of two generous gifts of land. Marty Blackington, a longtime resident of Granby, donated 8.45-acres of land, located at 33R Broad Hill Road to the Land Trust, and Beverly Goodwin of Charlotte, Vermont, who is a descendent of the Fancher and Holcomb Families of Granby, gave a 6.82-acre parcel of land located at 29R Broad Hill Road to the Land Trust.

The Granby Land Trust hosted a hike at its Godard Preserve on Connecticut Trails Day (June 2), and in a spring filled with cool temperatures and rainy days, the group got lucky and was blessed with a beautiful morning.

John and Christine are passionate and knowledgeable birders who generously share their time and expertise with others.

Each year, come the first weekend in June, more than 230 volunteer event leaders and organizers in Connecticut lead the largest trails celebration in the nation, offering hiking, biking, paddling, letterboxing, trail work parties, equestrian rides and trail experiences of all kinds.

A warm gathering under a cold moon

While the idea of hiking to the top of a mountain on a cold dark night in the middle of winter might not appeal to everyone, it certainly appeals to many, as evidenced by the fact that more than 40 people showed up to do just that with the Granby Land Trust (GLT) on December 23. The hike started at dusk on the GLT’s Seth and Lucy Holcombe Preserve on Silver Street and ended in complete darkness, with a cozy gathering at Emery Farm on Loomis Street.
