Trash Holiday: Thursday, Nov. 26, Thanksgiving, is a holiday for USA Waste and Recycling. All Thursday and Friday trash and recycling pickups will be delayed by one day that week.

Transfer Station hours: The transfer station will be open Wednesdays, 8 a.m. to noon, through Nov. 25.

Cylinder collection: Connecticut has implemented the nation’s first Extended Producer Responsibility law for residential gas cylinders. Consumers can drop off empty cylinders at the Granby Transfer Station. The program covers the collection, transport and recycling of various residential gas cylinders, including those used for: camping, grilling, DIY projects, portable helium tanks and hand-held torches.

Winter preparation: DPW crews will be out marking plow routes and trimming trees. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your property, reach out to DPW at 860-844-5241.

Sand mixed with salt is available at 166 Salmon Brook Street (the Granby Animal Shelter), opposite McLean Game Refuge. Residents of Granby may take one 5-gallon bucket at a time.

Extra Trash: If you have extra trash, town approved “extra trash” bags are available for purchase at $2 each. USA Waste & Recycling will pick up ONLY these designated purple bags. Place the purple bags next to your trash barrel on your regular trash day. The “extra trash” bags are available at Granby Public Works, the Transfer Station or Beman Hardware during hours of operation. Please note that bulky items, yard waste and recycling are not permitted in purple bags.
