GLT’s 19th Annual Juried Art Show

Call for entries

The Granby Land Trust, in partnership with the Granby Artists Association, is inviting artists from across the region to submit work for its 19th Annual Juried Art Show, taking place Oct. 29 through Nov. 29, at Lost Acres Vineyard in North Granby.

This year’s exhibition, “Celebrating New England’s Natural Beauty,” will showcase artwork depicting or inspired by the landscapes and natural settings of New England. Artists working in all genres of visual art are encouraged to enter, including painting, photography, drawing, sculpture and printmaking.

This year’s juror is George Van Hook, a nationally-recognized artist whose award-winning oil paintings and watercolors draw inspiration from the American Impressionist tradition. Our juror is underwritten this year by a gift from Katherine and Larik Hall.

More than $6,000 in cash prizes will be awarded. All artwork submitted must be offered for sale, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Granby Land Trust and its mission to preserve and protect Granby’s natural heritage. The art show is generously supported by the Wetzel Family and Ted Cormier/ALIRT Insurance Research, and we thank each of the underwriters of our artist awards.

Artwork drop-off will take place Friday, Oct. 23, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. to noon. Artists who preregister by mail by Oct. 13 will receive a reduced registration fee.

Opening reception is Oct. 29

“Celebrating New England’s Natural Beauty,” will open with a public reception Thursday, Oct. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lost Acres Vineyard, 80 Lost Acres Road in North Granby.

The opening-night reception will bring together artists, art enthusiasts, conservation supporters and community members to celebrate the region’s artistic talent and natural beauty. Guests will have an opportunity to meet participating artists and view the full exhibition while enjoying passed hors d’oeuvres and local wine in the vineyard setting.

The exhibition will continue through Nov. 29 and can be viewed during Lost Acres Vineyard’s regular hours: Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 6 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.

In December, make sure you return to Lost Acres Vineyard for another exciting art show—the Seasons of the Granby Oak Art Show—hosted by the Granby Artists Association and showcasing art inspired by the GLT’s Dewey-Granby Oak.

Annual Meeting and Community Supper set for Oct. 18

The GLT will hold its Annual Meeting and Community Supper on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 5 p.m. at the Granby Congregational Church’s North Campus, 219 North Granby Road.

Each fall, GLT members and supporters gather to celebrate their shared appreciation for the outdoors and the volunteers who work to protect Granby’s natural heritage. The annual gathering provides an opportunity for friends and neighbors to connect and learn more about efforts to preserve land, protect natural resources and manage conserved properties.

For the community supper, guests are invited to bring a side dish, salad or dessert to share. The land trust will provide vegetarian and meat lasagnas.

Following dinner, the GLT Board of Directors will conduct the annual meeting, which will include updates on recent land acquisitions and ongoing land-management efforts, the election of new board members, and presentation of the Mary Edwards Friend of the Land Trust Award and the Ann Pelka Unsung Hero Award.
