PFLAG Granby will hold a cookout and ice cream social on July 19 to celebrate one year since its launch. The cookout is open to anyone interested in participating with the chapter and is a chance to celebrate our first year of activities, including social gatherings, support meetings, guest speakers, a film series and the launch of LGBTQ+ advocacy efforts.
According to founding member Audrey Lampert, “We started a year ago with two questions for our community—would a PFLAG chapter be beneficial for Granby? Is there interest in forming a chapter here? The answer to both was a resounding Yes! Over the past year the group discovered there is a real need for support, education and advocacy. The chapter is now firmly engaging on all of three fronts.”
Along with monthly meetings, this fall the chapter will launch an LGBTQ+ themed book club and host guest speakers. The chapter will also launch an art exhibition entitled, “Becomings: The Portrait Project,” featuring portraits by Granby artist Doug Williams. This project highlights transgender and non-binary persons, along with their stories, and is expected to launch in early 2027 with a special sneak preview event in September.
The chapter is also exploring ways to support LGBTQ+ youth. “We want to make sure we’re doing everything we can to support kids who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. We hope to partner with other organizations and fill in where we can,” notes the chapter Education Coordinator Dee Endress.
You don’t need to be a member of PFLAG Granby, or a resident of Granby, to attend chapter events. Registration for all events is through the “Get Involved” page on the website: Granby.PFLAG.org Attendance is always a private matter and the chapter reserves the right to remove anyone who is disruptive.
