YMCA Summer Programs

Summer at the YMCA is a favorite time of year. It’s a season filled with sunshine, laughter, new friendships and opportunities for families to come together and make lasting memories. From outdoor fitness classes and summer camp to water safety education and community events, there is something for everyone at the Y this summer.

One of the programs The Y is most proud of is the Water Safety Presentation program. This year marks the fourth year bringing water safety education directly into local schools. What started in 2023 as a small initiative focused on second grade and younger students has grown each year into something truly meaningful for our community.

The Y has reached more than 12,000 children with important water safety lessons. This May alone, the team visited 12 local schools, including Kelly Lane School and Wells Road School, to help students prepare for a safe summer around water.

During these presentations, children learn:

  • Why life jackets are so important
  • Why they should always ask an adult before going near water
  • The safest ways to help if a friend is in trouble

These simple lessons can make a huge difference. By 2033, every child aged 18 and under in our community will have grown up with YMCA water safety education. That makes the Y staff incredibly proud.

The Y is bringing more fitness and family fun outdoors this summer with the new Outdoor Summer Class Series. From yoga and bootcamp classes to walking and weights, these weekly classes are a great way to stay active, enjoy the fresh air and connect with others in the community.

Family Flex, a family fitness program designed to get families moving together, is being relaunched. These classes are all about having fun, building healthy habits and creating time for families to connect through fitness and activity.

May 2 saw the largest-ever Granby Road Race with more than 400 runners participating. The energy throughout the event was incredible—it was amazing to see so many community members come together to support health, wellness and one another.

And because summer at the Y should always include a little extra fun, the Y will hold a Summer Rager Party! Families can enjoy a bounce house, foam party, dunk tank, lawn games and more. The event will be held Friday, June 26, 6–8 p.m., and is free for YMCA members and just $20 per family for community members, making it an easy and affordable night out for everyone.

There is still time to register for summer camp, too! YMCA camp gives kids the chance to explore, make friends, stay active, and create unforgettable summer memories in a safe and supportive environment. Families interested in learning more about camp availability can contact the Y or reach out to Amanda Fox at amanda.fox@ghymca.org

At the Y, summer is about more than keeping busy, it’s about building confidence, creating connections, and strengthening our community together. We are so excited for everything this season has in store and can’t wait to spend the summer with you and your family.
