There’s always something happening at the Granby Public Library. With programs ranging from storytimes and teen activities to author talks, hands-on workshops and special events, the library provides welcoming opportunities for the community to learn, connect and be inspired. Plant A Seed, Read! Summer Reading
The Summer Reading Program invites readers of all ages to Plant a Seed and watch their love of reading grow. Sign up starts June 15. This year’s theme celebrates growth, creativity and new beginnings—whether you’re planting ideas, friendships or knowledge.
Participants read throughout the summer to earn entries towards raffle prizes while enjoying special programs, hands-on activities and community events. From storytimes and performers to workshops, lectures and family programs, there’s sure to be something for everyone.
John Higby The Yo-Yo Guy

We’re thrilled to welcome John Higby, the Yo-Yo Guy, to launch our summer reading celebration on Thursday, June 18 at 6 p.m. on the library front lawn. With 25 years of performing his unique high-energy comedy yo-yo show in 26 countries, Higby holds four Guinness World Records and the title of World Yo-Yo Champion. His incredible skills and humor will amaze audiences of all ages. Bring a chair or blanket and a picnic dinner for an evening of family fun.
Tie Dye and Tunes
Saturday, June 20 on GPL Lawn, for all ages. Three sessions: 10–10:45 a.m., 11–11:45 a.m., 12–12:45 p.m. It’s not just any tie dye, it’s history in the making. Everyone is invited to make an America 250 keepsake while catching vibes from the Kinetic Ukes. Create your own wearable art on the library lawn while singing along with our favorite good-time ukulele band. Bring your own pre-washed cotton items, we provide the rest. Sponsored by FOGPL.
End Summer Reading with a Roar, Dino Academy
Monday, Aug. 10, 4 p.m. Wrap up summer reading with Dino Academy: A Dinosaur Discovery Show. Step into the prehistoric world with life-like dinosaur puppets that stomp, roar and charm their way into every heart. This action-packed adventure blends science, storytelling and imagination for an unforgettable journey through time. Don’t miss this STEM and history-filled adventure that’s sure to delight every young dinosaur fan! Sponsored by FOGPL.
Granby Kids’ Summer Maker Lab
The Granby Public Library, Town of Granby and the Granby Education Foundation are excited to offer a new summer program for students in grades 4–9, the Granby Summer Kids Maker Lab. Throughout July, students can experience a hands-on opportunity to explore creativity, technology, engineering, art and design in our engaging Cossitt Makerspace environment.
The week long program will run Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.–12 p.m. during the following weeks: July 6–10, July 13–17, July 20–24, July 27–31. Each week requires a $60 participation fee for materials and supplies. Thank you to Granby Education Foundation for providing four scholarships per session. Please indicate you would like to be considered for a scholarship upon registration.

Seed Library
The public is invited to pick up complimentary packets of vegetable, fruit, flower and herb seeds at F. H. Cossitt Library Branch, North Granby. The Seed Library still has a variety of seeds compliments of The Friends of the Granby Public Libraries and the University of Connecticut Extension Service. There are also numerous gardening resources available to borrow from the library. Let’s get growing!
