With the warmer spring weather, we reflect on the services that were provided to residents this past winter. Granby Social Services handled 83 applications for the CT Energy Assistance Program (CEAP). This program helps Connecticut residents afford to heat their homes. Benefits depend on income level, household size and whether there is a vulnerable member in the household. For more information on this program for next winter, please contact Granby Social Services at 860-844-5351.

Looking ahead, Granby Senior Center’s Annual Memorial Day Luncheon honoring veterans will be on Wednesday, May 20 at noon. Join us to honor and thank the veterans of our community. Enjoy a traditional meal of ham, potatoes and green beans, finished with a festive patriotic dessert. Bill Benson will serenade with his guitar.

Granby’s parks have been beautified and prepared for warm weather activities by Public Works. Salmon Brook Park was opened for various athletic groups to practice, so expect to see baseball, softball and lacrosse players and their families out and about at games and practices.

The Granby D.O.G.G.S. Dog Park is hosting the first dog swim of 2026 on Saturday, May 16, from 12–3 p.m. Rain date for the dog swim is Sunday, May 17. The dog swim is fundraising for the upcoming America250 celebrations.

There are some special Mother’s Day gift preparation events taking place at Cossitt Library Makerspace. Come by on Saturday, May 9, starting at either 10:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. to create a custom design on a sublimated mug for mom or the special adult in your life. Or consider coming to Cossitt on Wednesday, May 20, or Saturday, May 23, to make an engraved slate coaster. Classes and demonstrations are offered several times throughout the month, and they are a great way to get comfortable using the wonderful technology at Cossitt. Registration required.
