The Connecticut Press Club, founded in the 1970s, is composed of writers, editors, authors and other media professionals. Each year media outlets throughout the state are invited to submit pieces of their published work in a variety of categories. In January, the Drummer submitted 13 articles written by its volunteers in 2025 for consideration—and in April were notified that nine of its writers received awards.
The Drummer has entered the press club’s competition for six years and its writers have consistently won across multiple categories. This year is a record with two of the nine winning first place and going on to the national competition.
The chair of the Citizens for a Better Granby Board of Directors, Kathy Norris, said, “Volunteers throughout the Granby community have made the Drummer a success for more than 55 years, so it is not surprising that the Connecticut Press Club recognizes their talent! I am so grateful for this opportunity to celebrate our writers.”
The winners will be recognized in upcoming issues, according to Josh Anderson, managing editor, who adds, “We are fortunate to have so many talented writers at the Drummer who volunteer their time to contribute articles across a broad range of topics and issues. This year, our nine award-winning writers represented the very best in local journalism, earning well-deserved recognition from the Connecticut Press Club for their excellent work.”
