The signs are coming!

In recognition of America’s 250th anniversary, the Salmon Brook Historical Society (SBHS) invites residents to participate in a meaningful, highly visible tribute to the town’s rich architectural heritage.

The society is launching a special initiative encouraging owners of homes/buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places—or homes/buildings built more than 100 years ago—to install a commemorative historic house sign.

The custom-designed signs will feature black lettering on a white background and will be produced locally by Belmeade Signs. Each sign will include researched historical information provided by SBHS, such as the date the structure was built and, when known, the name of its original owner. See photo for a sample sign.

Participants are asked to make a $100 donation to SBHS. The society will cover the remaining production costs as part of its America 250 community celebration effort. Once the sign is completed, property owners may install it themselves or arrange professional installation (including mounting hardware) through Belmeade Signs for an additional $75 fee.

Property owners may request a sign by emailing salmonbrookhistoricalsociety@gmail.com or by mailing a check payable to SBHS (memo line: “sign”) to P.O. Box 840, Granby, CT 06035, and include their street address and contact information. You may also call 860-653-9713 and leave a complete message of interest with your contact information. A society volunteer will follow up with additional details.

As SBHS President Howard Berg shared when the Board of Directors approved the initiative, “We honor your house, and you honor your community.”

This project aims to create a visible, town-wide tribute to Granby’s historic properties while fostering pride in our shared heritage. Join us in honoring America 250—one property at a time.
