Bruce Porter Memorial Music Series holds tribute concert

The Bruce Porter Memorial Music Series will host a concert in memory of Brazilian Pianist Luiz de Moura Castro on Friday, April 10, at 7 p.m., at the South Campus of Granby Congregational Church, 242 Salmon Brook St. The concert marks the first anniversary of his death.

de Moura Castro served as a faculty member of the Hartt School for more than 40 years, bringing students from 15 countries to study with him there. Over 200 of those students are now teaching in universities and colleges in 15 countries. His recorded legacy comprises 50 CDs including the Five Beethoven Piano Concertos which he performed for the Beethoven Society.

On April 10, Bridget de Moura Castro, Luiz’s wife, and a group of his former students with international careers as concert pianists will perform. The other performers will include Monika Godoy Tessitore, of Brazil; David Garrido Cid, of Galicia; John Boudreau of the United States; Margarita Nuller, of Russia; and the husband-and-wife duo of Markus and Maria Centola, also from Russia.

Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $20. The church is wheelchair accessible from a side-entrance. For more information please contact the church office at 860-653-4537.
