Good Company Theater

Be sure not to miss Good Company Theater’s triumphant return with the musical A Man of No Importance.

Step into 1960s Dublin, where an amateur theater group and their passionate leader, bus conductor Alfie Byrne, attempt to bring Oscar Wilde’s Salome to life against all odds. A Man of No Importance weaves a heartfelt tale of courage, love and the transformative power of theater.

Performance dates are Saturday, Feb. 28 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 1 at 2 p.m. at Granby Congregational Church, South Campus, 242 Salmon Brook St. Tickets will be available at the door. For more information goodcompanytheaterct.org

Children’s Vision Screening

The Granby Lions Club will offer free vision screening for children on Saturday, March 21 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Farmington Valley YMCA. Each fall, the Lions screen Granby preschool and elementary school students. Now the club wants to make this service available to home-schooled and private school students, or any student whose parents may want vision screening done.

The screening is done by experienced Lions using sophisticated equipment entrusted to the club by the CT Lions Eye Research Foundation. An individual screening takes only seconds and provides immediate results. Children must be accompanied by a parent. No appointment necessary. For more information, contact Lion John Spatcher at 860-930-3782.

Civic Club

The Granby Civic Club will meet on Thursday, March 19 at 1 p.m. at the Senior Center. Refreshments will be provided. Guests are always welcome.

Empty Bowls

Granby’s annual Empty Bowls dinner will be held on Friday, March 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the cafeteria of Granby Memorial High School. Empty Bowls is a grassroots organization that works to fight hunger in local communities. Each year, students from Granby’s National Honor Society organize and run the event to fight local hunger. Attendees select handmade bowls and then are treated to unlimited soup and bread donated by local restaurants. All proceeds go directly to the Granby and Hartland food banks. The cost will be $20 for soup and a bowl, and $15 per person for soup and bowl for a family of 4+. $10 for soup only.
