Holiday spirit filled the air as more than 100 residents gathered at the Town Hall Complex for the town’s annual Tree Lighting Celebration, an evening that blended music, tradition and community connection.

Families and neighbors of all ages came together to mark the season with festive activities and shared traditions. A major highlight was the children’s program, which welcomed 44 children from pre-K through grade 5. The tree lighting remains a cherished Granby tradition, featuring the Granby Memorial High School Chorus leading the crowd in familiar carols.

Through the efforts of town leaders and volunteers the event was a glowing success: First Selectman Mark Fiorentino, Town Manager Mike Walsh and a dedicated crew of “elves,” including former First Selectman Scott Kuhnly, staff from Public Works, Town Clerk’s Department, Granby Library and Granby Senior Center, along with Curt Johnson and Bill De Nio from the American Legion—ensured the celebration ran smoothly.

Attendees went to the Senior Center to continue the festivities, where children and families awaited the much-anticipated arrival of Santa Claus. Holiday story readings, decorating ornaments, writing letters to Santa for the youngsters and refreshments, created lasting memories for local families.

Along with the tree lighting, the celebration also highlighted the Jewish observation of Hanukkah, known as the Festival of Lights. Sharing these seasonal traditions brought Granby neighbors together in a celebration of warmth, light and community.

Logo design contest for the annual Tree Lighting Celebration

As an extension of the celebration, the town is seeking entries for a Logo Design Contest for the annual tree lighting. The theme is: Granby Glows Bright! A community tradition of light, laughter and holiday cheer. Celebrating the spirit of the season together.

Submissions are welcome from all residents, especially Granby school children and high school students. The winning design will become the official emblem of Granby’s Tree Lighting Celebration. All entries will be displayed at town hall and shared for a public community vote. Interested participants should contact the Town Clerk’s Department for submission details and deadlines.

With strong attendance and joyful faces, Granby’s tree lighting once again proved that the season shines brightest when the community comes together.
