CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS
Take Your Child to the Library Day
Simply Enchanted: Saturday, Feb. 7, 10:30–11 a.m. Ages: 3 and up. Celebrate Take Your Child to the Library Day with the Little Mermaid and the Wayfinder. Sing along to their favorite songs, hear a story, play games and the Wayfinder will even teach you the dance native to her island, the hula! Be sure to bring your cameras, they will pose for photos following the performance.
Welcome Wags with Emmie: Saturday, Feb. 7, 12–1 p.m. All ages welcome. Come meet Emmie, a sweet and gentle Havanese who loves making new friends. This visit gives children a calm, welcoming way to meet a dog and spend time getting comfortable with a furry friend.
Wildlife on Wheels: Saturday, Feb. 7, 1–1:45 p.m. Ages 4 and up. Join us at the library to meet five animals from the Zoo in Forest Park and learn about their special adaptations, habitats, diets and status in the wild. Space is limited.
Baby Rhyme Time: Tuesdays, Feb. 10, 17, 24, 10:30–11 a.m. Ages: birth-14 months (non-walkers).

Portraits of the Heart: Mondays, Feb. 2 and 9, 4:30–5 p.m. Grades: 3–5. Travel back to colonial America and explore how people captured memories before photography. This is a two-part program, registration requires attendance on both consecutive Mondays.
Animal Explorers: Tuesday, Feb. 3, 4:30–5 p.m. Grades: K-2. Discover the wonders of penguins through stories, experiments and creative projects.
Heartfelt Keychains: Tuesday, Feb. 10, 4:30–5 p.m. Grades: K-2. Create a personalized Valentine keychain.
Berry Dippin’ Good: Tuesday, Feb. 17, 4–4:45 p.m. Grades: K-3. We will create a delicious creamy chocolate sauce, use it to cover strawberries and then dip into toppings of your choice.
Monday Makers: Monday, Feb. 23; 4–4:30 p.m. Grades: K-4. Join us each month to design, construct and test your engineering skills. We supply a variety of materials from Lego® bricks to unexpected household items and throw out new challenges every time.
Colonial Toy Creations: Tuesday, Feb. 24; 4:30–5 p.m. Grades: K-2. Use simple supplies like cardboard, yarn and fabric to craft classic toys while learning how colonial children entertained themselves.

Music In The Stacks – My Country, ‘Tis Of Thee: Sunday, Feb. 22; 2–3 p.m. at GPL. Tom Callinan, Connecticut’s first State Troubadour, performs patriotic tunes.
Conservation Conversation, Feeding The Soil: Tuesday, Feb. 24; 6:30–7:30 p.m. at GPL. Join Farm Manager Joe O’Grady to learn about soil management strategies to promote sustainable success at Holcomb Farm. These include the use of tailored cover crops, crop rotation and the application of soil supplements specifically formulated for Granby fields based on soil analysis and testing. Welcome special guest Dr. Josh Anderson, Holcomb Farm friend and author of the soon-to-be-released book, O-Horizon, Care/Work of American Soil.

Unearthing The Forgotten History of Fire and Flowers: Tuesday, March 3; 6:30–7:30 p.m. at GPL. Understand the deep, crucial connection between fire and a native wildflower meadow. Presenter Aubrey Schulz shares how fire promotes botanical adaptations that promote a biodiverse landscape.

Makin’ Mosaics: Glass Mosaic Trays: Wednesdays, Feb. 4 and 11, 1:30–3:30 p.m. Work with the Makerspace Technician to design and craft your own glass mosaic tray. Perfect for anyone looking to try something new and create a one-of-a-kind piece of usable art. $5 deposit required.
Makerspace Equipment Training: Learn to use the 3D printer, laser cutter, sewing and embroidery machines, sublimation printer, vinyl cutter, mug and bottle presses, and all manner of digitizing equipment. Sign up for group classes or speak with the makerspace technician to schedule an individual class.
3D Printing: Tuesdays, Feb. 3, 17, 4:30–5:30 p.m., choose either date. Learn how to find 3D print files and then use Bambu Labs 3D Printers to print them.
Laser Cutting: Tuesdays, Feb. 10, 24, 4:30–5:30 p.m. choose either date. Learn how to use the Glowforge Pro laser engraving machine to engrave, score and cut a variety of materials including wood, acrylic, stone, glass and leather.
Digitizing: Thursdays, Feb. 5, 19, 1:30–2:30 p.m., choose either date. Learn how to digitize analog media such as 8mm slides, VHS tapes and records. Print full color photos from slides or thumb drives.
Custom Designing: Thursdays, Feb. 5, 19, 4–5:30 p.m. choose either date. Learn how to use the Cricut cutting devices, heat transfer presses and the Brother Sublimation printer to create personalized designs for stick-ons, iron-ons and papers.
BOOK CLUBS

Something About the Author: Monday, Feb. 2, 1:30–2:30 p.m. Discussing author Penelope Fitzgerald, an English novelist, poet, essayist and biographer. She won the Booker Prize in 1979 for her novel Offshore. Her work is noted for its wit, precision and poignant humor.
Millennials Read Bookish Club: Wednesday, Feb. 4, 6:30–8 p.m.; Virtual event. The Danbury Library does an amazing job with their trivia night—let’s join as team Millennials Read. This is a hybrid event that takes place at Danbury’s local brewery. As team Millennials Read, we will get to consult in a Breakout Room between rounds.
Sci-Fi Fantasy Book Club: Wednesday, Feb. 25, 6–7 p.m. Discussing Yiddish Policemen’s Union by Kim Stanley Robinson. The novel is set in an alternate 2007 in the Yiddish-speaking metropolis of Sitka, Alaska. It follows homicide detective Meyer Landsman as he investigates the murder of a former chess prodigy and the impending end of a 60-year-old temporary settlement. Jim Gorman leads the discussion.
