As 2025 comes to a close, the Farmington Valley YMCA is proud to reflect on a year filled with community impact, generosity and growth. Guided by our mission of serving for all, the Y continues to ensure that everyone—regardless of age, background or financial situation—has access to the opportunities, programs and support they need to thrive.
This year, the Farmington Valley YMCA provided more than $100,000 in financial assistance to local families. This support helped children participate in youth sports, families maintain their health and well-being through memberships and parents access quality before and after school care and enriching summer camp experiences. Every dollar raised through our Annual Campaign stays here in our community, helping neighbors who need it most.
Our mission extends beyond fitness and recreation—it’s about safety, belonging and perseverance. Each spring, the Y offers free Safety Around Water swim lessons for children and adults. Participants learn essential lifesaving skills, such as how to respond if they fall into water, what to do if they become too tired to swim and how to help others safely. This year, Y staff also brought water safety education to 10 local schools, reaching more than 5,000 students ages 5–14 with key messages like “Always Ask Permission,” “Reach, Throw, Don’t Go” and life jacket safety.
The Y also continues to offer Livestrong® at the YMCA, a completely free program for adult cancer survivors. This evidence-based initiative supports participants in rebuilding their physical strength, confidence and community connection after treatment. In 2025, 32 survivors took part in Livestrong® at the Farmington Valley Y. For many, it became more than just an exercise program—it was a source of healing, hope and new friendships that extend far beyond the gym walls.
Another shining example of our mission in action is Race4Chase, a free six-week youth triathlon program held each summer in honor of Sandy Hook victim Chase Kowalski. This year, 29 young athletes participated in the program, training in swimming, biking and running while learning perseverance, teamwork and goal-setting. The program culminated in an inspiring final triathlon in August, where every child crossed the finish line with a sense of pride and accomplishment. Race4Chase teaches our youth that with dedication and support, they can overcome challenges and achieve anything they set their minds to.
Every story of success and support at the Y begins with people who care. As we enter the season of giving, we invite you to join us in continuing this life-changing work. Your donation—no matter the amount—helps ensure that the YMCA remains a place for all.
