The Granby B.E.A.R Transition Academy recently received a generous donation from Holloways Appliance Center in Simsbury—a brand-new stove to support students in their hands-on learning experiences.
Granby B.E.A.R Transition Academy stands for Bringing Emerging Adults Resources and is a post-secondary transition program for ages 18–22, designed to maximize student potential by focusing on student strengths, interests and preferences. The transition program supports individuals with developmental disabilities in preparation for a successful and fulfilling life after high school. Granby Public Schools maintains partnerships with community resources, businesses and community colleges to promote local and community-based experiences, positive social relationships and independent living skills.
Holloways donated the stove to the academy located at Farmington Valley YMCA. Students and staff were thrilled with this new stove as it will allow students to learn valuable cooking and baking skills as part of their life skills development.
As a heartfelt thank you, students created a hand-drawn card and baked fresh chocolate chip cookies for the Holloways team, who not only donated the oven, but also helped remove the broken unit it replaced.
