Paraphrasing a quote we read recently, “The local paper is what our small community is all about. It gives our town a pulse—showing the good work our civic organizations do, highlighting our students and athletes and giving residents a voice through letters to the editor.” Sound like The Granby Drummer? Except in this instance, the local paper was the Watertown Town Times, which published its last print issue on Oct. 30. The quote is from state Rep. Joe Polletta who went on to say that the loss of their paper is deeply felt.

The Drummer board and staff envision and continue to work hard to assure a different outcome for Granby’s paper. As local newspapers struggle to survive nationwide, we are blessed with committed advertisers (we can always use more!) and amazing volunteers. Amid competition from digital platforms and social media and the rising cost of print media, we continue to enhance our print processes and electronic communications. With your generous support, community grants and our Third Annual Puzzle Contest, we’re successfully moving forward.

That doesn’t mean that times are easy. Your donations are vital as we continue to bring local news to you in print, on our website and through social media. Bringing local news to Granby is why we began 55 years ago and why we continue today as an independent, nonprofit local publisher.

We are deeply grateful for any donation in any amount. All contributions are tax deductible. Please scan our QR code on this page, or make a donation online by using our Donate Now button on our secure website, granbydrummer.com
