This award recognizes an individual who provides exceptional property stewardship support to the GLT. In this case, that involves caring for a single extraordinary tree that requires thoughtful care and ongoing attention. Brian Watkins, the owner of Arborworks Professional Tree Care, who grew up in Granby, has taken care of the 500-year-old Dewey Granby Oak, on a pro-bono basis, for many years. As board member Put Brown said in presenting the award, “Brian is a trusted expert, bringing not only his education and experience, but also a deep respect for the land and an aesthetic sense that guides every decision. The GLT is deeply grateful to Brian for his generosity and dedication to the GLT and to the Dewey-Granby Oak.”
