An 11-member committee appointed by the planning and zoning commission is working on updating the town’s Plan of Conservation and Development, more commonly referred to as the “POCD.” The POCD is a guiding document used by town government and the public, that outlines policies, goals and standards for the physical and economic development of the town. It recommends the most desirable uses of land within the municipality for residential, recreational, commercial, industrial, conservation, agricultural and other uses.
Connecticut law requires each of the state’s 169 towns to prepare and adopt a POCD, and update this plan every 10 years. Granby’s last POCD was adopted in September 2016, therefore Granby must update its POCD by September 2026. Over the summer, the P&Z established the PCOD committee to lead Granby’s 2026 POCD update.
The committee is composed of three representatives from the P&Z commission and one representative from each of the following: agricultural commission, board of selectmen, conservation commission and the development commission, as well as four Granby residents. Mark Lockwood and Christine Chinni from P&Z are co-chairs of the committee. The committee met for the first time on September 23 and will continue to meet the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. Meetings will typically be held in the town hall meeting room.
Public input is important for the committee to receive, and the first public workshop will be held on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. in the senior center. Please come and share your thoughts about Granby to help guide the growth and development for the next 10 years. Please stay tuned for additional workshops that will be held in the coming months. Residents can subscribe to receive the POCD committee agendas through the town website and most meetings will be recorded on GCTV. If you have any questions about the 2026 POCD update or would like to provide comments outside of the workshop, please email pocd@granby-ct.gov or you may also contact the community development department 860-844-5318.
