Programs
Aging in Place, How to Protect Assets and Stay at Home: Thursday, Oct. 7, 10 a.m. Estate Planning and Elder Law Attorney Jeff Rivard will help you understand how to avoid putting your assets at risk in a way that can best position you to stay in your own home and age in place. You’ll learn about Medicaid and other public benefit programs the state has to offer as well as strategies that married or single people can use to protect their assets. Connecticut is among the top three states with the highest costs for nursing home and long-term care so it’s important to do your due diligence. Free.
Long-Term Care Insurance Crisis: Monday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. This free seminar is designed to explain in plain language what happened to this once-promising product, why premiums have skyrocketed, and what policyholders can still do to protect themselves.
Tibetan Singing Bowls: Friday, Oct. 3, 10 a.m. The bowls’ soothing sounds help to reduce stress and create a deep sense of peace and well-being. This ancient practice has been handed down from generation to generation by the Tibetan Buddhist monks. Participants are welcome to bring a yoga mat or can be done sitting in a chair. Cost $5.
Holcomb Farm Trail Hike: Tuesday, Oct. 14 (rain date Oct. 15). Meet at Holcomb Farm main building at 10 a.m. and step into nature. Join Jack Lareau for a refreshing two-mile journey along the scenic Holcomb Farm trails. Free.

Shopping: Shoppes at Buckland Hills, Monday, Oct. 27, depart center at 9:30 a.m. Cost $5.
Dine and Drive: The Rooftop, Thursday, Oct. 30, depart center at 11:15 a.m. Cost $5.
Mohegan Sun: Monday, Oct. 20, depart center at 8:45 a.m. Join us for a thrilling day at Mohegan Sun, one of New England’s premier entertainment destinations! Try your luck on the slots or table games, explore unique shops, or relax with a delicious meal at one of the many dining options. Cost $15.
Jack O’ Lantern Spectacular (Friendship Tours): Thursday, Oct. 23, Friendship Tour Bus departs center at 1:15 p.m. (10:30 p.m. estimated return) Take a leisurely walk through the ¼-mile trail as you feast your eyes on hundreds of artfully carved jack-o-lanterns depicting people, places, and scenes from popular culture to old-time favorites. Prior to the Spectacular, enjoy a delightful buffet under the tent on the grounds of Roger Williams Zoo. Sample Menu: garden salad, apple and brie stuffed chicken, fall vegetables, dessert platter, beverage. Note: There is a moderate amount of walking on this trip. Cost: $154 per person.
Ongoing Programs
CRT Hot Lunch: Every Tuesday and Thursday, 12–1 p.m. Community Café offers a healthy, low-cost lunch for seniors 60+ and the opportunity to join with others. Monthly menus are available at the Senior Center. All participants are required to complete a one-time informational survey. A donation of $3 per meal is suggested to help cover costs, however no one is denied a meal if unable to pay. Reservations are accepted until noon on Friday for the following week by calling 860-844-5350.
Cribbage: Fridays, 3–5 p.m. and Tuesdays at 6 p.m. Join this lively group. Experienced players assist with refreshing your game play. Free.
Set Back: Tuesdays, 1–3:30 p.m. Free.
Music Jam, Back in Time: Wednesdays, 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. Bring your instrument and join in. Music from 60s to 80s. Open to any type of musician. Free.
Makers Club: Mondays at 10 a.m. Bring your latest project to work on and enjoy some great conversation. Free.
History Revisited: Tuesdays, 10 a.m.–12 p.m. Jerry Perkins, former professor and high school history instructor, has a unique way of bringing history to life. Join this informative and fun view of events from pre-Columbian times to the present. Attendees will have the opportunity to request specific subjects to review. Free.

Blood Pressure/Blood Sugar Clinic: Thursdays from 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. No appointment needed. Courtesy of the Visiting Nurses and Hospice of Litchfield County. Held in the Senior Center Community Room.
Healthy Minds: By appointment only. Situations such as the death of a loved one, failing health or strained family relationships can be daunting to face alone. Working with a marriage and family therapist may help you move forward with the better part of life. To schedule a confidential appointment, call 860-844-5350.
Foot Care by Sarah: Wednesday, Oct. 8, by appointment only. Cost for 30-minute appointment is $35.
Exercise Programs

Gentle Movement: Mondays, 11:15 a.m. This class will gently increase your strength, help your ability to balance, and provide stretching to maintain and increase mobility. Instructor, Paula Pirog.
Total Body Tone: Mondays, 12:45–1:45 p.m. Class will consist of circuit style strength training/cardio using a variety of equipment like bands, weights, and steppers, etc. Class will include chair and standing exercises. Instructor, Michelle Rancourt.
Chair Yoga: Tuesdays, 2:30 p.m. Enhanced breathing, seated and standing classic Yoga poses, plus balance training and core strengthening. Guided meditation finishes the class in a calm and relaxing manner. Instructor, Paula Pirog.
Yoga: Tuesdays, 4 p.m. Strength building sequences, standing and on the mat. Includes balance and Pilates floor work. Instructor, Paula Pirog.
Tai Chi: Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. Tai chi is an ancient Chinese practice that combines slow, graceful movements, deep breathing and meditation. It is considered a form of mind-body exercise that has numerous health benefits. Join us to learn simple Tai chi basics, stretch, breath and increase stamina and vitality. Beginners welcomed and encouraged.
Line Dancing with Jim: Wednesdays, 1:30–2:30 p.m. Instructor Jim Gregory has been teaching dance full-time for 40 years. His expertise will have you learning the steps in no time and having a blast too! This class is for beginners to advanced dancers.
Everybody’s Exercise: Thursdays, 1:30–2:30 p.m. Suitable for anyone and everyone, this class will include strength and weights, some cardio, balance and flexibility. All movements can be modified for chair or standing. Mary Root will personalize your routine based off current flexibility, strength, etc.
All about Balance: Thursdays, 2:45 p.m. This class focuses on strength for balance efficiency, such as squats, handheld weight maneuvers, and walking drills, as well as core conditioning. Instructor, Paula Pirog.
Adult Fencing: Fridays, 11 a.m. Olympic fencing is open for everyone with any physical abilities. Fencing does not have weight categories or age limits and there are fencing tournaments even in 90+ age groups. It is an elegant and complex sport that makes your brain think fast, keeping it healthy and alert. It helps to maintain your motor skills in top condition. Taught by coach Marc, a Fencing Master with 45 years of experience.
