On Oct. 26, 34 dancers from Nutmeg’s Dance and Theatre Co. will take the stage at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., performing for audiences from all over the globe.
The dancers, 22 of whom are from Granby, were accepted into Walt Disney World’s prestigious Imagination Campus program and have spent the summer rehearsing for the big event. They will perform to music from The Descendants films, and couldn’t be more excited to share their hard work.
Nutmeg’s Dance and Theatre Co. opened in 2003 under the direction of Meg Fenton Funk, a long-time Granby resident and GMHS graduate. She also co-choreographs for the Granby Memorial High School Drama Club, and says it’s been a joy to watch the school’s performing arts program grow and thrive. “There is so much talent in our town,” Funk shared.
Nutmeg’s Dance and Theatre Co. is a non-competitive dance studio offering classes for ages 1.5 through adult in a welcoming, family-like environment. Its programs include ballet, hip hop, boys’ classes, acro, musical theatre, Broadway jazz, commercial street jazz, modern, contemporary, dance team/cheer, world dance, tap, adult modern, adult tap, adult hip hop, and more. Over the years, the studio has awarded more than $15,000 in scholarships to Granby’s graduating seniors pursuing the arts.
Stay tuned—the dancers will soon hold a public dress rehearsal of their Disney performance. Details will be shared on the studio’s Facebook page and at NutmegsDance.com
