The library’s “Plant a Seed, Read” summer reading program ended on Aug. 10, with 459 library patrons registered for the program that kicked off with the Yo-Yo Guy on June 18. The library offered 70 programs this summer, and the children readers logged 133,440 minutes this summer. Thanks for the hard work of library staff and volunteers.
Join the Senior Center for a hike at the Holcomb Farm Tree Trail on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 10 a.m. As part of America 250, Friends of Holcomb Farm has set up a scavenger hunt to find the original 13 state with Betsy Ross flags as prizes for completing the search.
If the great outdoors is not your speed right now, consider a daytrip to Pumpkintown USA on Monday, Sept. 28. Stroll through the village and forest of pumpkinhead people and enjoy the creativity. There is a harvest store, a main store and a Christmas store.
The Granby Public Works Department has been busy this summer. Road reconstruction is being completed on Muriel Drive, Danielle Road, Evangeline Place and Sullivan Drive. The road reconstruction process involves full depth reclamation and grading of the road surface, before a binder and final coat of asphalt are applied.
Roads milled and prepped for new asphalt are Granby Farms Road, Old Field Road, Indian Hill Drive, Gristmill Lane and Aster Drive. Roads that received a chip-seal improvement are Strawberry Fields, High Ridge Drive, Pine Woods Road and Deerwood Drive. Curbs are being installed in some areas, and after curb installation, DPW crews will backfill behind the curb area and seed grass. Crews will also fix or install driveway aprons where they are needed. Thankfully, the weather cooperated long enough to see these projects finalized.
The dogs that play at Salmon Brook Park are looking forward to upcoming dog swims in the park pond. These are scheduled for Aug. 30, Sept. 13 and 27, and Oct. 4, from 12 to 3 p.m. These fun events ($10/dog, cash or check only) raise money for the upkeep of the dog park, and the pure joy of the dogs will get everyone’s tails wagging.
