Adult Learning Showcase
Learning for the fun of it—no tests or homework. See how it works on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 4:30–6 p.m., at the fall kickoff at Presidents’ College, the adult lifelong learning program at the University of Hartford. This Get to Know Us event features refreshments and jazz. Hear fall course instructors describe what inspired their upcoming sessions. Whether you prefer lectures, discussions or two- to four-session mini-courses, see if there’s a right fit for you.
Choose from Iranian history and culture, AI and marketing, cold case investigations and forensic science, the Supreme Court, how immunology is revolutionizing medicine, Bach, world myths of return from the underworld, Jane Eyre, French film, national and global politics, and much more. Or elevate your theater experience by joining us for discussions of the Hartford Stage production of Dracula and then attending a performance. Courses are held at the University of Hartford campus and at McLean in Simsbury. There’s no charge for the kickoff event, but you need to reserve a seat at hartford.edu/pc. Chorale singers wanted
Farmington Valley Chorale is welcoming new singers for the 2026-27 season. FVC is a non-audition volunteer chorus, entering its 57th year of bringing music to the Farmington Valley and beyond.
Rehearsals are Sunday evenings, 7–9 p.m., at Simsbury United Methodist Church, 799 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury. Interested singers can attend open rehearsals on Sept. 13 and 20. These two open rehearsals will begin at 6:30 p.m. A brief meeting with the artistic director to hear you will help place you in the proper vocal section.

Empty Bowls Fundraiser
Join Expressions Pottery Workshop and the Friend-to-Friend Food Pantry for the 26th Annual Empty Bowls fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 10, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the East Granby Community/Senior Center, 7 Memorial Drive. All proceeds benefit the food pantry for pre-qualified East Granby residents and families in need.
This year the delicious soups will be prepared by Guest Chef Omar Saad, owner of Lazy Fare in East Granby. Choose your gorgeous hand-potted bowl, then enjoy choice of soups and live folk music performed by Allendale Rose. Opportunities for a fresh holiday turkey raffle, fall themed prizes, or purchase of gorgeous flower arrangements in Expressions Pottery vases make the event even more fun.
After lunch, visit the nearby pottery shop for dessert and early holiday gift shopping, enter the free raffle for a $50 Expressions Gift Card and pick up a complimentary pumpkin.
