William B. Moody of Granby, Connecticut was born in Olney, Illinois, December 30, 1928. Son of Byrl and Marjorie (LeFever) Moody of Oblong, Illinois, and died at age 97 on May 22, 2026. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1952 and attended Clark University in Worcester, MA before being employed in the Claim Department of Traveler’s Insurance Company. He was subsequently transferred to Hartford, to Chicago, and back to the home office in Hartford to retire as Director in 1985.

While in Worcester, he joined the US Army Reserve and served 30 years in MA, CT, and the Green Beret Special Forces Unit in Chicago. He retired as a Colonel and was still on Army parachute jump status at his retirement. He had received his Paratrooper (wings) status in active service after high school in the occupation of Japan after WWII. As an active reservist and still an active paratrooper, his special personal event was to jump at Ft. Benning, GA with son, Jeff, who was making his qualifying jump in 1973 at Airborne school as a member of ROTC at WPI.

Bill was an active member for over 65 years at South Congregational Church of Granby, a life member of the Legion in Granby, and 75 years in Masonic Lodge of Oblong, IL and Winter Haven, FL.

In many years of retirement, he volunteered at numerous places – an especially fun job was heading up program sales for the Kansas City Royals baseball team spring training games in Davenport, FL in the 90’s.

He was an avid reader and competitive bridge player; enjoyed woodworking and researching Civil War General lives, traveling, family, and friends.

Bill is survived by his wife of 75 years, Eleanor Schwartz Moody, two children Jeff Moody (Donna) and Jan Moody of Granby, CT; four grandchildren, Adrienne Conner of Cleveland, OH, Stuart Conner of Westfield, MA, Cara Moody (Julian) of Hamden, CT, and Greg Moody (Liz) of Farmington, CT as well as six great-grandchildren, ages 5-25. His only sister, Barbara Moody Keenan of Brownsburg, Indiana predeceased him by only a short time at age 99 on May 9, 2026.

Services will be private for family and close friends and will be announced at a later date.
