At its June 1 meeting, the Granby Board of Selectmen honored long time public works employee Michael J. Leamy on the occasion of his retirement. Leamy served the town as a Public Works Maintainer for 33 years before being promoted to Fleet Mechanic. In this capacity, he was responsible for more than 60 pieces of equipment of all sizes.
Before being hired in January 1993, Leamy honorably served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps in the Third Assault Amphibious Battalion.
Anyone who might question Leamy’s devotion and commitment to Granby needs only to know that on winter nights when the forecast was for questionable weather before dawn, the Newington resident made arrangements to stay in town overnight so that he could get to treating, plowing, or whatever the roads needed without any travel delay.
Leamy is an active and dedicated member of St. Therese Church. He especially likes to make new parishioners feel welcome and to help out at the annual church cookout.
The board wished Leamy and his fiancée all the best as they look forward to retired life.
