Granby Memorial High School fields several competitive teams during the CIAC winter sports season, including boys and girls basketball, wrestling, ice hockey, swimming and indoor track. Competing in the North Central Connecticut Conference (NCCC) as well as statewide CIAC competitions, GMHS student-athletes continue to represent the Bears with strong sportsmanship and outstanding community support.
The winter season has been highlighted by impressive performances across multiple programs. Boys basketball is currently ranked third (as the Drummer went to print) in Division IV with a strong 10–1 record, while girls basketball sits 13th in Class III at 8-4, both teams positioning themselves well for postseason play. Indoor track athletes have consistently placed at meets throughout the winter season in Hartford, demonstrating depth and competitiveness across events.
The wrestling program has taken on new challenges this winter, competing in several new tournaments and preparing to host the Annual Four Corners Meet in February, a long-standing tradition at GMHS. The Bears also hosted the annual boys basketball Holiday vs. the Hills Boys Holiday Tournament, finishing an impressive second place against strong competition.
Swimming continues to build momentum in its first season as a CIAC co-op program with East Granby and Windsor Locks, showing growth and competitiveness at each meet. Meanwhile, ice hockey remains a point of pride for the school, as the Bears’ co-op program with Suffield and Windsor Locks continues to deliver strong performances throughout the season.
Overall, Granby Memorial’s winter sports programs are thriving, reflecting the dedication of student-athletes, coaches and the Bears community.
