In December, Kelly Lane, Wells Road and Granby Memorial Middle schools partnered in a toy drive benefiting Connecticut Children’s Medical Center (CCMC). Together, the schools collected an impressive 413 toys and craft items to support children receiving medical care at the hospital.
The initiative was made possible through the generosity of students, families and staff, who came together with a shared goal of bringing comfort and joy to pediatric patients during challenging times. Organizers expressed deep gratitude to the community for its overwhelming support and participation.
Several individuals and student groups played a key role in coordinating the collection, including Ms. Okenquist, Mrs. Brothers, the Wells Road Student Council, the GMMS Renaissance Club and Mrs. Coppinger. Their leadership and dedication helped ensure the success of the drive.
The toy drive was held in partnership with CCMC’s annual PJ Day, which took place at Kelly Lane School, Wells Road School, GMMS and GMHS on Dec. 12. PJ Day for the Kids raises awareness and honors children who must wear pajamas for extended periods while undergoing treatment for cancer or other serious illnesses. Students and staff were encouraged to donate $1 or more in order to wear pajamas to school. Granby Public Schools raised $1,662.14 in cash and $1,001 online this year, with online donations still ongoing. A special shout out to Ms. Lucas for coordinating this fundraiser.
Through this combined effort, the school community not only collected meaningful donations but also helped shine a light on the experiences of children receiving medical care, reinforcing a message of empathy, support, and compassion.
