The Salmon Brook Historical Society is seeking a volunteer curator to help preserve and share Granby’s rich history. Established in 1945, the society is an all-volunteer, membership-based, nonprofit organization located at 208 Salmon Brook Street.
The Society’s mission is to locate, acquire and preserve items related to the history and citizens of the Granby area; to maintain and display collections for public benefit and education; to identify, mark and help preserve buildings, locations and objects of historical interest; to record and preserve local traditions and memories; to document current history for future generations; and to gather, publish and circulate information related to these objectives.
The curator has custody—under the oversight of the Board of Directors—of all historical property owned by or entrusted to the Society. With board approval, the curator may acquire items of historical interest from sources other than donations and is responsible for ensuring the preservation, protection, accessibility and accurate cataloging of the society’s collections in accordance with adopted policies and procedures.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone interested in local history, museums, preservation or community engagement. The society’s current curator, Martha Miller, is retiring from the position and would welcome the opportunity to work with and support the new curator during the transition.
Interested individuals are invited to submit a letter of interest to: Howard Berg, President, Salmon Brook Historical Society, P.O. Box 840, Granby, CT 06035.
