The graduation ceremony for Granby Memorial High School is scheduled for June 11, and Granby Parents for a Safe Graduation (GPSG) is kicking into high gear. GPSG is an all-volunteer, non-profit group that organizes a substance-free Safe Grad celebration for GMHS graduates at the Farmington Valley YMCA on graduation night. A steadfast group of parents has been meeting since October to coordinate fundraising and plan this exciting, memorable event.
This annual event cannot happen without support from the community. SafeGrad is not a school event and does not receive town funding; all costs are covered by fundraising events, individual donations, support from local businesses and the Granby Community Fund. Funds have already been raised through bottle drives and a candy sale in December.
There are many ways to support SafeGrad in the coming months:
GPSG is currently collecting gift card donations as raffle prizes for the graduates. The group recommends cards for Amazon, Target, Door Dash/Grub Hub and Visa gift cards. Gift card donations can be dropped off directly at Granby Memorial High School or mailed to GPSG at the address below.
Monetary donations are always welcome. To make a donation, please send your check payable to “Granby Parents for a Safe Graduation” and mail to Granby Parents for a Safe Graduation, Attn: Treasurer, PO Box 81, Granby, CT 06035.
GPSG will also hold a fundraiser at Wayback Burgers in Granby on Feb. 2, from 5 to 9 p.m. as well as a spring candy sale at Stop & Shop on March 14, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Follow GPSG on Facebook “Granby Parents for a Safe Graduation” for more information and fundraising events like the bake sale and flocking in the spring.
Anyone interested in more information or volunteering their time and talents can contact GPSG Chair Jana Henry at granbyparentssafegrad@gmail.com Consider being a part of this Granby tradition to give the Class of 2026 a safe place to celebrate their achievement. Thank you for your support.
