PFLAG Granby hosts speaker

PFLAG Granby is pleased to offer a conversation about parenting trans youth and some of the issues these families face. There will be a presentation by Melissa Combs, followed by Q&A. Combs is the parent of a transgender teen and the founder of the Out Accountability Project, an organization dedicated to creating safe, affirming learning environments in Connecticut’s public schools. The meeting will be held on Sunday, March 1, at 4 p.m.

As a result of her child’s treatment in their school district, Combs reinvented herself as a lobbyist and now advances policies that promote equity in education for LGBTQ+ students statewide.

In 2025, the project led passage of the Freedom to Read Act, giving Connecticut the strongest anti-book banning law in the nation. Combs and her child are also plaintiffs in Carter v. McMahon, a lawsuit challenging the dismantling of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights—an essential safeguard for students facing discrimination.
