In 2026, Granby will join communities across the nation in marking a once-in-a-lifetime milestone: America’s 250th birthday. To honor this historic moment—and to ensure future generations hear Granby’s voice—the town is launching the Granby America250 Time Capsule Project, an inspiring community effort to capture who we are, what we value and how we live today.
Thanks to a generous donation from the Salmon Brook Historical Society, this project is fully funded and ready to move forward. Now, we need you.
A message to the future
The Granby America250 Time Capsule will preserve letters, photographs, memorabilia and memories from 2026. It will be sealed and buried in late July 2026 on the main campus of the Salmon Brook Historical Society, 208 Salmon Brook Street, and opened on July 4, 2076—America’s 300th birthday.
Residents of all ages, families, schools, clubs, faith groups and local organizations are invited to contribute meaningful items, such as:
• Letters to the future from individuals or families
• Student essays, such as “What Granby Means to Me in 2026”
• Photographs of daily life, special events or town landmarks
• Newspaper clippings and event flyers
• Small objects that represent Granby today (coins, patches, badges, etc.)
Every submission—large or small—helps paint a fuller picture of our town at this moment in history.
A community effort
The project is being organized by the Granby America250 Time Capsule Committee and curated in partnership with Salmon Brook Historical Society to ensure items are preserved to archival standards. This is truly a grassroots project, powered by community pride and made possible by the support of the Salmon Brook Historical Society. Collection of items is underway now and will continue through May 2026, so this is the perfect time to participate.
If you have an item to submit, an idea to share or questions about the project, please contact Dave Roberts at Granbydavidroberts@gmail.com or 860-469-5067.
