Trash Holiday: Please be aware that Thursday, Nov. 27 (Thanksgiving) is a holiday for USA Waste & Recycling. All Thursday and Friday trash and recycling pickups will be delayed by one day that week.
Transfer Station hours: The transfer station will be open Wednesday mornings
(8 a.m.–12 p.m.) through Dec. 31.
Cylinder collection: As of October 2025, Connecticut implemented the nation’s first Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) law for residential gas cylinders. Consumers can drop off empty cylinders at the Granby Transfer Station to be picked up and recycled.
The program focuses on the free collection, transport and recycling of various residential gas cylinders, including those used for: camping, grilling, DIY projects, portable helium tanks and hand-held torches.
Winter preparation: As we prepare for winter, DPW crews will be out marking plow routes and trimming trees. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your property, reach out to the DPW at 860-844-5241.
Sand mixed with salt is available at 166 Salmon Brook Street (the Granby Animal Shelter), opposite McLean Game Refuge. Residents of Granby may take one 5-gallon bucket at a time.
Extra Trash: What do you do if you have extra trash? In these instances, town approved “extra trash” bags are available for purchase. The bags are $2 each. USA Recycle will pick up ONLY these designated purple bags. Place the purple bags next to your trash barrel on your regular trash day. These bags are available at Granby Public Works, 52 North Granby Road from 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Monday–Friday or from the transfer station attendant during transfer station hours.
