Upcoming programs:
Top Medical Discoveries of the 20th Century. Scientific discoveries like penicillin, public health advances such as those around smoking and seatbelts, plus high-tech medical devices such as defibrillators and robotic tools have contributed to our living 70 percent longer than people did in 1900. Join Dr. Mike Magee to learn about the progress as well as projections and possibilities for the next ten years. Wednesdays, Nov. 5, 12 and 19; 1–2:30 p.m.
Monday Afternoon at the Movies: Screwball comedies match a livewire female with (and maybe against) a conventional male. Their heyday was in the 1930s and 40s, but some are still made today. UHart Professor of Cinema Michael Walsh will discuss two Barbara Stanwyck classics plus two more recent films. Mondays, Nov. 10, 17, Dec. 1 and 8; 3–4:30 p.m.
Backstage with the Award-Winning Wicked: Frank Rizzo, longtime reviewer, instructor and font of theater history, will orchestrate two sessions on Wicked, the Broadway musical and hit films. Wicked: Part Two will be released Nov. 21 so join fellow fans to delve into why this story has so grabbed our culture’s attention. Thursdays, Dec. 4 and 11; 12:30–2 p.m.
