Household hazardous waste collection: Saturday, Oct. 18, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Simsbury DPW facility, 66 Town Forest Road. A list of accepted items is available on the Town of Granby website. Document shredding will be available 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. or until the truck is full. Two box limit per resident. For information, call the Granby DPW at 860-844-5241.

Cylinder collection: Connecticut has implemented the nation’s first Extended Producer Responsibility law for residential gas cylinders. Commencing in October, consumers can drop off empty cylinders at the Granby Transfer Station to be picked up and recycled. The program focuses on the free collection, transport and recycling of various residential gas cylinders, including those used for camping, grilling, DIY projects, portable helium tanks and hand-held torches.

Roadwork: Road improvements are an essential part of responsibilities at Public Works. The process includes many steps such as drainage improvements, blacktop overlay, curb installation followed by backfilling the curb and, lastly, line striping. Delays are unavoidable. We thank you for your patience as you traveled through the locations being worked on this summer. Continue to use caution as crews work diligently to close out this work before winter.

Signs: Generally, no private signs are permitted on town property. Before placing a sign on the town green, please contact the town manager’s office for approval. Signs should only be placed on the roadside with permission of the property owner. Signs should never be placed in traffic islands.

Yard Waste: Yard waste is not allowed in your trash or recycling barrels. Yard waste has been banned from curbside barrels since 1998. Grass, leaves, and brush should be composted onsite or brought to the Granby Transfer Station.
