Wild and Scenic River happenings
With the 2019 federal designation of the Lower Farmington River and the Salmon Brook as a part of the Partnership Wild and Scenic River’s program, interest grew for creating a quilt similar to the Upper Farmington River’s quilt created by Mary Pat Leger and other quilt artists. Her inspiration brought together 26 quilt artists, some nationally recognized and some working on their first landscape quilt, to make the Upper Farmington River quilt.
Another group of talented artists, some of whom had participated in the Upper Farmington River quilt, have created the Lower Farmington River and Salmon Book quilts, portraying 20 locations along the Farmington River and seven locations along Salmon Brook. The 40-foot-long Farmington River portion is complemented by a 15-foot-long Farmington River portion along both the east and west branches of the brook and the main stem. The Salmon Brook panels measure 30”x12”.
Each talented quilter worked independently using his or her creative expression to depict a specific location. One of the panels will depict Salmon Brook Park. The Salmon Brook portion of the quilt will be displayed at the Granby Public Library Oct. 2 to 30.
Later this fall, the town will receive a hand-crafted kiosk that will be located in Salmon Brook Park near the walking path and adjacent to one entrance of the brook. It will contain information that showcases Salmon Brook’s Outstanding Resource Values.
Both projects received funding through grants from the Lower Farmington River and Salmon Brook Wild and Scenic committee.

United Methodist Church history
In 1729, John Wesley assumed leadership of a small group of Oxford University students striving to be methodical about personal holiness. They were referred to as the Holy Club or methodists until 296 years later when the church became known as the United Methodist Church—now the spiritual home of about 80 million people.
The community is invited to learn more about the past, present and future of the United Methodist Church in a presentation by Jeffrey Cedarfield of Copper Hill UMC to be held in the large conference room of the East Granby Public Library on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
