Granby Public Schools is proud to announce that the 2025–26 Teacher of the Year is Sarah Warner, music educator and band instructor at Wells Road Intermediate School.

Warner was selected from an exceptionally talented group of Granby educators, each worthy of this special recognition. During the selection process, Warner shared her deep love for watching students grow—from their very first notes on an instrument to performing with them at middle and high school concerts. She also takes pride in welcoming back Granby graduates who are aspiring musicians and music educators to work alongside her each summer at band camp.

Reflecting on her career, Warner said, “It has been my absolute privilege to be a band director and music teacher in Granby for the past 22 years. I seriously have the best job, working with the best people. Thanks to my Wells Road and music department families for your friendship and support.”

While her passion lies in flute and jazz music, Warner has embraced innovation by incorporating educational technology into her general music classes, including AI image generation. In a recent lesson, students listened to an Impressionist piece, brainstormed words describing the feelings the music evoked, and used those words to create AI-generated artwork, “painting a picture of the music.” Each classes’ images were compiled into a slideshow for comparison and discussion.

The letters submitted for her nomination reflect the impact she has had on her students: “Sarah’s dedication is unmatched! She is not only focused on the music, but also the growth of all of the children” and “Mrs. Warner has always been there for me and by my side when playing the flute. We have a lot of great memories together, and I look up to her a lot.”

Granby Public Schools congratulates Sarah Warner on this well-deserved honor and thanks her for her dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to her students.
