Children’s Halloween Costume Swap: Sept. 8–22, ages infant to 10 years. Don’t buy new—swap and save! Bring your child’s gently used costumes in September, then return in October to pick out a “new-to-you” costume just in time for Halloween!

Coding Crew: Tuesdays, Sept. 16, 23 and 30, 4:15–5 p.m., grades 3–5. Come have fun learning to program our Ozobot robots. Use colorful codes to give your bot special commands—make it twirl, navigate mazes, even hunt for treasure on a pirate map. This three-part series builds critical thinking and logical reasoning skills through hands-on play.

Animal Explorers: Mondays, Sept. 8, 22 and 29, 4:30–5 p.m., grades K–2. Each week, we’ll journey into the exciting Animal Battle series to discover two incredible animal competitors and their amazing super skills. You’ll learn fascinating facts about each, then take part in a fun hands-on activity inspired by the week’s animals.

Artbox, Gnome Peg Dolls: Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2:30–3:30 p.m., grades 3–5. Step into the magical world of gnomes where every child becomes a maker of their own whimsical woodland friend! In this fun-filled craft session, children will transform simple wooden pegs into delightful gnome characters using felt, fabric, glue and plenty of creativity.

Dungeons & Dragons: Tuesday, Sept. 9, 3–5 p.m., grades 6–12. Join us for a thrilling session of Dungeons & Dragons with Dungeon Master PK. Prepare to face new challenges, exciting battles and explore deeper into the fantasy world. The adventure awaits—are you ready? Light snack provided. Teen Nature Journaling, Delight in the Wonders All Around Us: Mondays, Sept. 8, 15 and 22, 1:30–2:30 p.m., grades 6–12. There is a whole universe in a pinecone, acorn, leaf or flower! In this mindfulness class, we will make close observations and record our findings in words and expressive drawings in our journals. Learn simple, meditative writing and sketching practices to help you connect with yourself, others, and Mother Earth. Learn the foundation for a regular nature journaling habit. Welcome Wags with Emmie: Monday, Sept. 8, 1–2 p.m. Catch some pawsitive vibes with our furry friend Emmie, a well-mannered Havanese with a gentle disposition and soft, silky coat. Register or drop in.  

Monday Movie Matinee, The Intern: Monday, Sept. 8, 1:30–3:30 p.m. Critics praised the performances by Robert DeNiro and Anne Hathaway in this box office success. The 2015 comedy/drama runs two hours 1 minute, and is rated PG-13. Complimentary snacks are provided; you are welcome to bring your own beverage in a container with a lid. Author Talk, Sarah O’Hare: Tuesday, Sept. 9, 6:30–7:30 p.m. Discover local hikes and hear information first-hand from author and avid hiker Sarah O’Hare. Hiking With Kids Connecticut is a guide to 45 amazing hikes for families with children and feature some of the best, yet family friendly, hiking areas in the state. Those interested in an author-signed book may purchase one at a program discount. Sponsored by The Friends of the Granby Public Libraries.

Conservation Conversation, Food Waste Solutions: Tuesday, Sept. 16, 6:30–7:30 p.m. Will Madsen and members of the Granby Conservation Commission share sustainable solutions to reduce food waste as well as composting methods to enrich soil and reduce landfill waste. Special guest presenters from Blue Earth Compost will answer questions about food scrap collection. Blue Earth Compost is a leading food scrap collection service that turns millions of pounds of wasted food into soil products. Sponsored by Granby Conservation Commission and Granby Public Library.

Crafters Café, Leaf Printing on Canvas Totes: Thursday, Sept. 25, 5–7 p.m. Choose favorite leaves and words of affirmation to create a design on a canvas tote bag. Art educator Denise Smith offers guidance using nature printing techniques. This craft program requires a $5 deposit to hold the reservation. Sponsored by The Friends of the Granby Public Libraries.

Tories, Spies & Traitors–Divided Loyalty In Revolutionary Connecticut: Tuesday, Sept. 30, 6:30–7:30 p.m. Which side are you on? That’s the question that every single person in Connecticut had to answer in 1775, as the 13 colonies began a rebellion against British rule. Hear the stories from Connecticut’s remarkable history as we begin our America 250 journey. Some are well known, some obscure, but you’ll marvel at the Nutmeggers who risked and sacrificed to support their chosen side during this tumultuous jarring time of civil war. Ready to learn, educate and support your community? Become a certified volunteer at the Granby Public Library Makerspace located at F. H. Cossitt Library Branch, North Granby. Maker Faire Celebrating Granby Open Farm Day: Saturday, Sept. 6, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. The Cossitt Creation Station welcomes visitors for maker activities that celebrate Granby Open Farm Day. Adults and children are invited to drop in to make custom buttons, fragrant sachets and more. Visit with Engine Rich and get a pic in his little blue truck, a 1934 Chevy DB half-ton pickup truck that looks just like the one in the children’s book series, Little Blue Truck, by Alice Schertle. Let’s Make Customized and Personalized Bookmarks: Wednesday, Sept. 17, 4–5:30 p.m. or Saturday, Sept. 27, 10:30 a.m.–12 p.m.; Adults, Teens 16+. Let’s work together and design our own bookmarks and watch the Glowforge Pro cut and engrave them to reality. Learn how to use our Glowforge Laser Cutter and Engraver for future projects.

Sew Simple, Buttonholes and Buttons: Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1:30–3 p.m.; Adults, Teens 16+. Join instructor Sandra Salazar for a hands-on workshop using the Brother sewing machine and learn to make buttonholes. All materials provided, no fee. Space is limited. Hooked On Stitches, Knit and Crochet Group: Saturday, Sept. 27, 10 a.m.–12 p.m. Adults, Teens 16+. The only difference between an experienced knitter and new knitter is that the experienced knitter makes bigger mistakes faster. All skill levels are welcome. Book Clubs

Books for book discussions are available at the library, online and through curbside pickup.

Millennials Read Book-ish Club: Wednesday, Sept. 3, 6:30–8 p.m. at Los Potras Mexican Restaurant, Granby. At this no-stress book discussion, join readers in their 20s, 30s and 40s to talk about current book picks, watchlist and more. You do not need to be reading anything to participate. This is a partnership between Bloomfield, Granby and Simsbury libraries and open to all. Participants will be responsible for their own food and drink purchases.

Something About The Author: There is no discussion in September. Join us in October to discuss Old God’s Time by Sebastian Barry. Books will be available Monday, Sept. 1.

Sci-Fi Fantasy Book Club: Wednesday, Sept. 24, 6–7 p.m. Discussing The Last Astronaut by David Wellington. Due to a failed mission to Mars, Sally Jansen, a leading astronaut, is convinced her days in space are over. But she’s wrong. When a large alien object enters the solar system, NASA turns to her to lead a mission to intercept it before it reaches Earth. Jim Gorman leads the discussion.
