Safe Grad needs YOU!

It’s February, and you know what that means—groundhog shadows, hearts, chocolate, and Granby Parents for a Safe Graduation (GPSG) kicking into high gear! GPSG is an all-volunteer, non-profit group that organizes a substance-free Safe Grad celebration for Granby Memorial High School graduates.

This event is held each year on graduation night and cannot happen without volunteers! A steadfast group of parents of underclassmen and some senior class parents have been meeting since September to fundraise and plan this fun-filled event. The party is the culmination, but there are countless tasks from fundraising to party planning that happen months in advance.

Grad Night is typically chaperoned by the parents of underclass students—NO senior parents allowed —so it is especially important for new volunteers to step up each year. GPSG has hosted this party for the last 38 years, so even if your students are not in the high school, jump in to lend a hand now and help keep this tradition going strong.

The committee holds meetings the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. through May (except during school vacations). Meetings are held at the Farmington Valley YMCA. Follow GPSG on Facebook at facebook.com/granbyctsafegrad/ to stay “in the know” for all the latest events and outreach.

GPSG is not a school event and does not receive any town funding; all costs are covered by fundraising efforts throughout the year, as well as through a Granby Community Fund grant and support from local businesses. Donations are welcome and appreciated any time of year. GPSG accepts checks (payable to Granby Parents for a Safe Graduation) and, closer to the event, gift card and other raffle prize donations. Donations can be mailed to: Granby Parents for a Safe Graduation / Attn: Treasurer / P.O. Box 81 / Granby, CT 06035.

Anyone interested in volunteering their time and talents can contact GPSG Chair Jennifer Ehmann at granbyparentssafegrad@gmail.com.

Consider being a part of this Granby tradition to give the Class of 2024 a safe place to celebrate their achievement!
