The Shannon-Shattuck Post 182 awarded $1,000 to Ellen Hemmann, the winner of the 2023 American Legion Scholarship Raffle.

Over the past two months, Legionnaires sold more than a thousand tickets to support the scholarship fund. “We haven’t been able to add to our scholarship fund in the past several years because COVID really constrained our contacts with the surrounding community,” said Jim Hall, the most senior member of Post 182. “This raffle and all of the donations is a very welcome means of bringing support to this worthy cause.”

Raffle chairman Robert Moss, together with Bob Groper, presented $1,000 to Ellen and her husband Ray on Nov. 13. “We really need to thank all of our friends and neighbors for being so generous,” Moss commented.

Wayne Adams added, “And special thanks to Granby’s new Chief of Police Scott Sansom for joining our Armistice and Veterans Day dinner and drawing the winning ticket.”
