A Winter Morning

The sun rises, the darkness of the winter night fades, and light and hope return—

Soon I hear the blue jays calling to each other and to me. I hurry to the door to offer

sunflower seeds and tiny pieces of peanut butter to eat. The squirrels, not wanting

to be left out, rush over to share this meal with them. Later, as I watch them

through the window while the radio speaks distressing news, I am at peace.

They have inspired me to be generous and loving.

I will try to carry this throughout my day.

And so, my morning begins—
