Granby student places third in state contest

Chase Alexander, a student at Granby Memorial High School, placed third in the Connecticut Press Club’s annual writing competition.The high school contest is run in conjunction with the Connecticut Press Club’s professional contest. The entries were judged by communications professionals who are members of the press club.

Alexander’s article, My Freshman Year Amid a Pandemic, which was published in the Drummer, was entered in the Opinion category. The Connecticut Press Club encouraged high school students from around the state to enter its exciting first communications contest involving 23 categories including op-ed columns, blog posts, news and feature stories, radio, video, photographs, and cartoons.

“We were thrilled to include young talent from throughout the state in this year’s competition and were quite impressed by their submissions,” said Michele Turk, Connecticut Press Club president.

The Connecticut Press Club is an affiliate of the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW) and includes both male and female members. The club welcomes all types of communicators: writers, editors, bloggers, authors, educators, public relations professionals, media photographers, students.
