Working closely with Town Manager Erica Robertson, First Selectman Mark Fiorentino has put together a program to identify what Granby’s various “stakeholders” feel should be its most important goals. The plan is an unprecedented attempt to coordinate and consolidate those goals wherever possible. It is hoped that the plan can be finalized and adopted within the calendar year of 2022.
Fiorentino refers to the members of the town’s various boards and commissions as the “internal stakeholders.” He and/or Robertson will be meeting with each of these groups to explain the plan’s process and request one or two goals, which will then be presented to the general public, the external stakeholders, by way of public workshops or Board of Selectmen meetings.
Once the set of goals is drafted, those that overlap may be identified and combined. For example, it is possible that one of the goals of the Development Commission, whose job it is to develop and sustain business, may very well overlap with one of the goals of the Agriculture Commission, agriculture being one of Granby’s most important businesses.
Fiorentino is looking to a final number of 10 to 15 items that will be presented to the external stakeholders. Unless there are important considerations that arise, the goals will be adopted at a BOS meeting and announced to the various boards and commissions, placed on the town website (granby-ct.gov) and published in the Drummer. The identification of these important goals will allow the next budget to be developed around them with regard to monetary and staffing needs.
