Thanks for Used Book Sale

The Friends of the Granby Public Library held its 38th Used Book Sale in September after a two year wait due to COVID restrictions last year. It was another successful sale and a welcome return of our patrons who look forward to this annual event.

I want to thank the Board of the Friends group (Carole Bernard, Kim Leydon, Sue Tokarz, Jane Reardon, Brian Tomasino and Vicki Bale-Saunders) as well as Judy Guarco and the entire Library Staff for all the work done to meet this year’s challenges to hold the event.

We started the collection process of books and other items in the middle of June and after one week had donations that took us almost four weeks to sort! We were able to reopen for a few days in July. There was little space left in our storage area. We are appreciative of those who made so many donations.

Our thanks, of course, go to our sponsors (see our article in this issue of the Drummer for their names) as well as the many volunteers who helped us along the way from sorting through the sale.

The Granby High School football and field hockey teams did an excellent job of moving more than 550 cartons of sorted books to the main barn at Holcomb Farm, staying until the task was completed.

Thanks as well to the Recreation Department, the Department of Public Works, the Cossitt Library group who loaned us tables and moved them to Holcomb Farm, and Geissler’s and the Y for serving as a drop off point for donations.

To all who attended the sale, thank you for your support!

Del Shilkret, FOGPL President
