Support for Roberts

As a Granby resident and long-time community volunteer who cares passionately about our town, I am writing to strongly encourage all Drummer readers to vote for Dave Roberts for the Granby Board of Finance in the upcoming election.

I have known Dave Roberts through his regional efforts to help others, including serving as a neighboring town’s volunteer hunger security coordinator. Dave worked through multiple non-profits and government agencies to help secure assistance for families in need during the pandemic. He personally reached out to Waste Not Want Not and me to see how he could help those in Granby. For over one year, Dave helped secure resources for local residents from the federal government when others turned us down. His no-nonsense, hands-on approach to problem solving is just the type of leader we need scrutinizing our local budget to ensure that we can preserve our quality of life.

Dave has an outstanding resume that he brings to this position. Locally, he chairs the Granby Conservation Commission, serves as secretary of the Salmon Brook Historical Society, is a Justice of the Peace, serves on the leadership team of the Granby Men’s Breakfast Group and volunteers his time for a number of non-profits. His education is in finance and so is his experience. Dave is a family man with six children ages 8 to 26 years old. Since retiring after a distinguished four-decade long career with local, state and federal government, the private sector and a non-profit executive, Dave has dedicated his time to his family, community.

This Nov. 2 you can vote for up to three candidates to serve on the Granby Board of Finance. I hope you will consider Dave Roberts as one of your three choices.

As a Granby resident and someone passionate about preserving Granby’s quality of life, I am writing to strongly encourage all Granby voters to support Dave Roberts for the Granby Board of Finance.

I have gotten to know Dave Roberts through our service together on the Granby Conservation Commission. I currently serve as Vice Chair of the Commission and Dave serves as Chair. Dave is passionate about conservation issues. He is a native of Connecticut and his descendants first came here in 1629. Dave is proud to be part of the 13th generation of his family to live in Connecticut. Much of his family’s former land is now part of People’s State Forest in Barkhamsted. Dave’s family also formerly owned the Hitchcock Chair Company in Riverton and two of his grandparents served as State Representatives for many decades His grandfather, Laurence H. Roberts, was instrumental in securing funding for Northwestern Connecticut Community College in Winsted.

Like many in Granby, Dave is retired but he is also raising five of his six children here. His oldest son serves in the United States Air Force and he and his wife are stationed in New Mexico. Dave’s other five children (four boys and one girl) still live at home in West Granby and four of them attend local public schools and participate in many school activities. Prior to the pandemic, Dave could often be seen volunteering in the Kelly Lane Primary School library or reading in one of his kids’ classrooms.

Dave works well with all people to make them feel heard and understood, and I know he will work tirelessly to preserve every Granby resident’s quality of life. As a small businessman, Dave knows the value of business to a small community’s tax base.

Most importantly, Dave has a distinguished financial background and will be able to jump into this position on day #1 to serve our entire town.

Dave Roberts will make a great member of the Board of Finance and he will bring new talent and experience to this important board. Please join with me in voting for Dave Roberts for Granby Board of Finance.
