We were pleased to read that long-time West Granby resident Donna Nolan is running for election to the Board of Education. Granby could certainly use a smart, tireless, responsible advocate like Donna to help strengthen the quality of education in our town with a level of fairness and fiscal discipline.

Donna has that rare combination of highly relevant professional skills and strong personal qualities that will make her an ideal choice for the board. A former practicing attorney, she possesses considerable experience getting results and negotiating deals that bring diverse parties together—a skill that will undoubtedly serve her well in developing budgets that balance the educational needs of our students with the available financial resources of our town.

If elected, Donna can also bring a true insider’s view to the Board of Education. A current teacher, she has worked as a substitute teacher within Granby schools for the past few years. She is also the proud parent of two Granby Memorial High School honors graduates, and of one current student in his junior year. She has attended countless soccer, football and basketball games over the years—not to mention parent teacher meetings, awards ceremonies and Curriculum Nights! Knowing the value of a good education, she has even offered her home to Granby student athletes from Hartford as their home-away-from-home during the week to lessen their burden of long commutes and to make sure they had ample opportunity to study after long days of classes, practices and/or games.

Over the years, Donna has also been a tireless fundraiser for local organizations and causes in our community. Whether it’s funding Safe Grad Night, selling discount cards to support the Granby Bears football team or chairing St. Mary’s Annual Auction, Donna gives it her all. And we’re confident she will do the same as a member of Granby’s Board of Education.

We completely support her candidacy!
