Town welcomes new administration finance officer

Town Manager John Ward has announced the hiring of Yim (Kimi) Cheng as the administration finance officer for the Town of Granby effective September 30.

Cheng received a BS in accounting and a BS in business management from the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania. She is currently a Certified Government Finance Officer.

Cheng has worked as a professional in the finance field for over seven years, most recently for the State of Connecticut, Office of the State Treasurer. As the State Treasurer’s Cash Control Officer she analyzed approximately $73.8 billion statewide revenues and expenditures for preparation of comprehensive cash flow projection to maximize potential investment returns on state common cash and to minimize banking fees. She executed approximately $35.0 billion statewide wire transfers yearly and reconciliation of various bank and investment accounts to the state accounting system. She also analyzed approximately $7.2 billion of pension funds financial data for preparation of a detailed pension funds cash flow report. Cheng was also responsible for deciding the available cash for daily investment opportunities.

Prior to working for the State of Connecticut, Cheng served as a finance manager in Barefoot Bay Recreation District FL, a special district under Florida Status. She worked there for five years. and was responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, payroll, retirement benefits, debt and investment management. In addition, she was responsible for the preparation of the annual budget, the five-year capital improvement plan and the annual audit report. The district received its first unqualified audit report under her management and continued to have unqualified audit reports under her management. She was the first employee in Barefoot Bay Recreation District since 1984 to receive a Certificate of Accomplishment from the Board of Trustees.

Cheng says that she is honored to be selected to serve as the Administration Finance Officer for the Town of Granby. Her priority will be to ensure that the town continues to receive excellent professional financial standards. She looks forward to working with the residents in the town, the boards and commissions, department heads and employees of the Town of Granby.
