The Friends of the Granby Public Library completed its 36th Annual Used Book Sale in September on a beautiful weekend that included other major events both in Granby and Simsbury. I am pleased to note that we had the best book sale ever, raising $10,600.

We started with a record number of donations, a large and enthusiastic sorting staff that operated during June and July, and a board that worked side by side with all throughout not only the sorting time, but the sale itself. When it came to moving books from one location to another across the road, the volunteers were there to accomplish the task even though our normal help from students was not available due to the holiday.

Our friends at Cossitt Library once again loaned us their special sale tables, the town departments of recreation and public works worked with us as we prepared for the sale, the YMCA and Geissler’s Supermarket provided book collection space for us, and Wine, Inc. saved empty boxes for us to use as we sorted and stored books by category for the sale.

Others helped by allowing us to post signs on their premises to publicize the event. We appreciated the donation of books and other items for the sale and for those who attended the event.

A number of local businesses provided sponsorships in various ways for the sale: Salmon Brook Dental Associates, Judy Guarco (Berkshire Hathaway), Beman True Value Hardware, Cambridge House Brew Pub, the Chen Group (Han, @the Barn, Farmer’s Kitchen), Granby Village Health, Village Cork and Keg, Windsor Federal Savings, Geissler’s Supermarkets, Lox, Stock and Bagels, Grass Roots Ice Cream, Stop & Shop, Wine, Inc. and Big Sky Fitness.

We owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to the entire staff of the Granby Public Library for their patience and help during the donation months and their ongoing support.

Special appreciation to the dedicated FOGPL Board who helped to make it all happen.
