The 2018 Memorial Day parade and ceremonies, Monday, May 28, marks the 100th anniversary of Memorial Day events in Simsbury. The Simsbury American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars are once again organizing two parades in celebration of Memorial Day.

Tariffville Parade

The parade will start at 9 a.m. at the bottom of Winthrop Street and conclude with a ceremony at St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Veterans should assemble at the foot of Winthrop Street at 8:30 a.m.

Downtown Simsbury Parade

The parade will start at 1:30 p.m. at Owens Brook Boulevard and conclude with a ceremony at the Simsbury Veterans Memorial (adjacent to the Simsbury Public Library). Marchers should assemble at 12:45 p.m. in the Simsbury Bank parking lot. Riders should assemble at 12:45 p.m. at Somerset Lane.

Veterans who prefer to ride in a vehicle may contact Paul Carrier (860-748-3044), John Fox (860-658-0388) or John Lamb at (860-604-0471). Shuttle bus service will be available at First Church at 12:30 p.m. and again at 12:45 p.m. Restroom facilities will be available the start of the Simsbury Parade on Owens Brook across from Simsbury Bank and across from Somerset Lane and at the end of the parade at the library.

Please be advised that both parade routes (Winthrop Street and Route 10) will be closed on May 28 leading up to and during the parade, and Owens Brook Boulevard will be closed between Winterset Lane and Route 10.
